The Salon is a contemporary feminist exploration into modern concepts of beauty and how they are affected by media and advertising’s conservative idealistic representations of women. It articulates the artificial value of manufactured beauty, which is marketed towards young women,  and presents the idea of self-fashioning as an alien concept. The mundane is made sculptural, the self is used as a prop, and staged studio environments are used to create a clinical alternate reality, which reflects the photographer's own relationship with societal beauty norms.
