HOLLY JADE BATE
creative photographer AND ART DIRECTOR
Holly is a conceptually driven photographer interested in modern cultural themes of social media, consumerism, and the artificiality of the online beauty landscape. Focusing on constructed studio setups and using commercial visual language to touch on these themes, she is able to discuss issues within the digital era of physical perfection. Still-life and self-portraiture are most commonly used to explore ideas photographically, with alien sculptures highlighting seemingly mundane beauty paraphernalia, and self-portraits allowing her to perform intuitively in front of the camera, having full control of the image.
These disciplines are easily transferable to commercial and editorial photography due to their clean and distinctive style. Holly is intrigued by a new wave of futuristic self-fashioning across genres, where anything is possible.

Role involving supervising and zoning other members of staff, time management, communicating efficiently with customers, working within a fashion environment, following new trends to be a “fashion role model” within the company, and recognising key selling products.
Artist, Freelance - JUN 2018 - PRESENT
Self-initiated small business taking freelance commissions for art portraits of pets and people. Involves working to a client’s vision, working to deadlines, and organising bookings and payments.
Photographer, Freelance/Self-initiated Projects - MAR 2019 - APR 2020
Independently organising photoshoots and collaborating with other photographers, models, and stylists to build editorial portfolio images. Working within a team, following individual roles inspired by commercial studio workflow, using Capture 1 to review and edit images during the shoot. Retouching after using Adobe software.

Work experience in a professional commercial studio. I gained confidence and industry knowledge regarding workflow by assisting alongside photographer, digital editor, client, model, and art director in a fast-paced e-commerce menswear and still life shoot.
Exhibition Assistant, PhotoNorth - NOV 2018
Voluntary role assisting with exhibition assembly and personally curating the ‘Great Britons of Photography’ section alongside a team of volunteers, this built problem solving and project management skills.
